Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and if you want the perfect gift idea from the heart, look no further. This DIY home decor is exactly what you need to give to that special lady in your life you wish to celebrate and honor on that day.
Using pallet knife painting and stencils, this simple craft will wow the special moms in your life. These are so thoughtful, fun, and easy, you just might want to make one for all the moms you know. So let’s get started making this adorable Mother’s day gift.
- Hammont Tray Set (5) from Amazon
- Reusable Rose and Peonies Floral Set from Essential Stencils
- Waverly Paint – Truffle
- Golden Acrylic – Heavy Body Acrylic Paint from Amazon
- Pallet knife
- Baby wipes
- Squirt bottle
1- Sand your wooden tray to give you a smooth surface.
2 – With your truffle-colored paint, drop a little onto your tray. Quickly with your squirt bottle, dampen your tray. With a rag, wipe the paint, all over creating a stain-like look. Completely cover your tray, inside and outside.
3 – Paint softly with a brush in any areas that you may have missed to help finish it off. *Tip: For a lighter look, use less paint!
4 – Grab a little plate or canvas to hold your paint to begin working. Squirt a little out of the colors you want to use. (Red, white, black, and green) *The consistency of the paint is thick like a toothpaste.
5 – Select your stencil, and lay it out flat on your tray, keeping it in place. Tip* If your stencil is a little longer than your tray, use little clips to hold it in place.
6 – With your pallet knife, select a white and a bit of red to create a mixture of reds and pinks. Have fun with it. You will take your pallet knife with paint on it and dab it up and down on the area you want to paint in your stencil. The dabbing will create the textured look we are hoping to achieve.
7 – Pounce up and down with your pallet knife. Mix colors around, blend as you go, and take your time. Be sure to keep your stencil down in place as you work. Have fun with it. Remember, you can use a normal stencil brush for this project as well. A pallet knife just has the different textured look that I was going for.
8 – Add white to lighten your colors and black to darken. Think about the shading and dimension of colors as you paint. Color all of your flowers first, and then move on to your green leaves.
9 – As you remove your stencil, carefully lift up to reveal your creation. The texture will amaze you. Sprinkle glitter on if you like that look.
10 – Let dry completely.
11 – Paint the outer edges and tops of the sides of your tray with white acrylic paint by Waverly to complete your look.
12 – Grab your glue gun and jute rope. Tie jute to one side of your tray, wrapping in and out through the side hand slot of tray completely covering the area. Hot glue in place to complete your look.
