Thrift shopping is something I can do every day of the week! There’s nothing better than walking into a store and spotting that piece but having no idea what your are going to do with it. This picture frame is one of those pieces I knew I needed , who could blame me, look at all those details! I’m going to show you how I transformed this frame into a simple elegant home decor using a really unique painting technique!
Let’s start making this diy farmhouse rose picture frame
It’s important to clean your frame first, I typically use some water mixed with vinegar and wipe it down really well. It’s important , because if not cleaned your paint will not stick and you will notice chipping over time. Now the colors I chose obviously can be changed to match your decor, the one item, the Vaseline you will need.
I painted the base of the picture frame with Waverly White. It covered the frame in just 2 coats!
Once the paint was dry I applied the Vaseline, that’s the trick for this technique! I simply used a brush and applied it to places around the frame that I wanted to highlight. The trick is that the top coat won’t stick to any areas covered by the Vaseline, so this is where you will get the distress look.
Now for the top coat , I used Waverly elephant it’s the perfect gray to go with any Farmhouse decor. Apply the paint over the entire picture frame. Once you have applied the top coat, take a rag and wipe away the paint, you will notice where ever the Vaseline was it will show the white underneath.
Let’s make this even prettier
These white roses I picked up from Michael’s is the look I was looking for. I did remove the glass from the frame so the roses would sit nicely in the frame. Then it couldn’t have been simpler, I hot glued them directly to the backing. If you loved this look you may also enjoy this Farmhouse Heart
