Pumpkins are super easy to find this time of year! Of course, because its fall. Dollar Tree , Hobby Lobby and even Target carries them at really affordable prices. There are so many colors and styles to choose from, but I always like putting my own touch on my decor. When I saw these pumpkins, I knew I had some copper leaf that would take these pumpkins to the next level. Now, you may think doing copper leaf is too much work but I will show you how to easy it is to create your own DIY copper leaf pumpkin.
Supplies you will need to make a copper leaf pumpkin
Pumpkins- any shape or size
Copper Leaf- I used a brand called Maker’s Studio. However, you can find similar copper leaf in our AMAZON STORE
Size- this is the “glue” that will adhere the cooper leaf to the pumpkin
First, you are going to want to clean off your pumpkins. I use alcohol and wipe every part of the pumpkin. This will ensure you have a clean surface to work on.
This is going to be so simple you’re going to want to cooper leaf everything! Trust me, I know!
Using a paintbrush “paint” on your size in the areas you are going to want covered by the cooper leaf.
It’s important to let the size sit on the pumpkin for at least 15 minutes, this is the real trick. You want it to become tacky. I have had some ask if mod podge can be used and I have tried it and it was a FAIL. Use the right glue otherwise it will end up a hot mess 🙂
Here’s a quick tip, turn all your ceiling fans off
Once your size if tacky, you can apply the copper leaf. The sheets are very thin so that is why I suggest turning off the fans. I find the easiest way to apply is tear off the tissue paper with the leaf. Take the sheet and lay it on the pumpkin over the size.
Once the leaf is applied, use the tissue to burnish the copper leaf into the pumpkin. It isn’t going to be perfect but the look is amazing. I think it pops even more on the black pumpkin.
Once you have the copper leaf where you want it, take a stiff chip brush and remove the excess. Oh my, how in love are we with this look!!
Making a few of these doesn’t take much time at all, just some patience. You can absolutely create your own style. I added mine to a dough bowl! You can see me live making that centerpiece here.
